As the representation of ethnic minorities continues to grow, it is an absolute delight to be part of this great season. Statistics provided by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) survey cite that the percentage of ethnic representation of children’s books within the UK between 2017 and 2022 has risen from 4% to 20%. Many of us would love to see even more increase in this area and this is a huge part of the reason I write for our young black youth. If this is also something that is close to your heart, please join me and support the cause so that our young people can have more access to books that celebrate them as they continually develop a stronger sense of self. It also gives non-ethnic minority communities an insight into cultures different to their own, therefore further encouraging more cross cultural integration, which enhances general community spirit. A win-win situation.
